Internships for 2017

Key Dates

Applications open Friday 24th February

Confirmation of interview: Sunday 12th March
Interviews Monday 13th, Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th March 6pm till 9pm
Decision made Friday 17th March
Internship Induction 21st March

Our 2017 intake will ask interns to make a two-semester commitment, however this isn’t a necessity and shouldn’t deter applicants. Interns will generally be expected to be available Tuesday nights and become members of AIIA QLD. Applicants will be notified of their result by e-mail throughout the process.
Interviews are individual and last around 15-20 minutes. Successful applicants will be contacted to arrange a time during these interview windows.

What we’re looking for

The institute provides 3 internship opportunities:
– Marketing and Communications
– Reporting and Content Creation
– Program Support and Event Management

Marketing and Communications Interns are responsible for assisting in managing the institute’s social pages via content creation and community management. They are also responsible for increasing engagement amounts existing and new members of institute and developing strategies for ongoing marketing initiatives.

Reporting and Content Creation Interns are responsible for interviewing and filming the institute’s fortnightly presenters as well as editing content for the website and YouTube channel. Interns will also be involved in writing for the organisation’s website and researching potential speakers.

Program Support and Event Management Interns are responsible for supporting the preparation of the institute’s events such as the Young Professional Network, AIIA Trivia Night, AIIA Annual Dinner to name a few. Responsibilities include sourcing event materials, event logistics, guest management and researching suitable topics.

Internships are not paid and no assistance is available. Interns must be based in Brisbane and able to attend all events Our program is designed for local and visiting residents to fit around their other activities (such as work or study).

AIIA Queensland doesn’t have standard office hours. All organisational tasks are undertaken by volunteers (including the branch officers). You will need to be comfortable with communicating by e-mail and phone.
Interns will work on things that are important to the organisation, and it’s important that you’re self-motivated and reliable without constant supervision. Your work will be balanced between pursuing your own interests and general tasks the branch needs to run. All interns must be available to help with our meetings, which are held on Tuesday nights (twice per month).

Requirements

Your application should include;
(i) a CV/Resume, no longer than two pages, outlining educational qualifications and any work experience and,
(ii) completion of the four application questions below. Each following a 150 characters word limit.

1. Why are you interested in being an AIIA intern?
2. Describes yourself, your interests, hobbies and community service activities.
3. Outline what internship position you’d be interested in and what experiences you could draw upon.
4. What are you passionate about within the field of International Relations?
