Kicking goals: reflections on the value of sports diplomacy in Brazil

Elisabeth Landels from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade,  will reflect on her time in Brazil which was bookended by the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic and Paralympic Games.  Elizabeth will discuss the Australia-Brazil relationship and the use of sports diplomacy as a tool to achieve priority Australian Government objectives.

Time: 6pm entry & registration for a 6:30pm start

Venue: St Catherines College, 2 Park Road, Crawley (opposite UWA)

Parking on College grounds is limited to those with parking permits. Free parking is available opposite at UWA’s Recreation Centre & Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery. Street parking is also available at the rear of the College on Park Road and surrounding streets.

Cost: $5 for members & $15 for non members. Pay at the door on the night, or register and pay online.

Members and guests are invited to join the speaker for dinner afterwards at the Chinese Village Restaurant on Broadway. $30 per person including beverages. RSVPs taken on the night.

 

About the Speaker:

Elisabeth Landels joined DFAT in 2011 and has recently returned from overseas where she served as Second Secretary at the Australian Embassy in Brasilia.  In Brazil, Ms Landels led on economic reporting, agriculture and market access issues, social media and sports engagement. She also worked on major events including the FIFA World Cup, the Australia now cultural festival and the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Ms Landels has worked in a wide range of roles in DFAT, including serving on Australia’s United Nations Security Council campaign team. She is currently working in the DFAT WA State Office.

Prior to joining DFAT, Ms Landels worked as a commercial lawyer in Perth for Mallesons and as an Associate to His Hon Justice Michael Buss. Ms Landels holds a LLB (Hons)/BA from UWA.
