Sri Lanka Today: Emerging opportunities and perspectives

Mr David Ritchie, former High Commissioner of Australia to Sri Lanka and Leader of the 2016 Study Tour to Sri Lanka.

In conjunction with the Australia Sri Lanka Council, AIIA Victoria welcomes you to hear at first hand the insights of the AIIAV Study Tour to Sri Lanka in July 2016, and to discuss emerging trade, business & investment opportunities.

Mr Prasanna Gamage is the Consul-General of Sri Lanka in Victoria.  He joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in 1998, serving in Sri Lankan High Commissions in Singapore and London, and within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Colombo, Sri Lanka.  He was Sri Lanka’s Director at the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) from 2012-2014, and the Acting Director General of Overseas Administration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2011-2012.  He is also a Fellow of the United Nations Fellowships of Disarmament and a Fellow of the Asia Pacific Centre for Security Studies, Hawaii, USA.  Mr Prasanna holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture with specialization in Agricultural Economics and Extension from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.  We are delighted that Mr Prasanna will share with us the trade, business and investment opportunities in a resurgent Sri Lanka.

Mr David Ritchie joined the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs in 1975.  His career in Canberra included positions as private secretary to the Foreign Minister, Head of the Office of Pacific Island Affairs; Head of the Americas and Europe Division; and Head of the Africa, Middle East and Pacific Division.  His overseas postings were Rome; Tel Aviv; High Commissioner to Western Samoa with accreditation to American Samoa; High Commissioner to Sri Lanka; Deputy High Commissioner to London; and Ambassador to Paris.  He holds several degrees including as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University.  As leader of the recent successful AIIAV Study Tour to Sri Lanka, Mr Ritchie will present the report of the Study Tour and offer his perspectives on the unique insights and unprecedented access the delegates experienced in a nation starting to discover its full potential.

Please note the earlier than usual starting time to allow for more networking as well as the two keynote speeches.
